At 16, outgoing and irrepressible Olya Kulik became Ivankiv’s youngest widow. A year earlier, she had been a happy-go-lucky teen, riding bikes and flirting with her boyfriend, Vanya (left). She got pregnant and married him. When their baby was 2 months old, Vanya died in a car crash. Now Olya is 17. She lives with her new husband and is committed to finishing high school. Many adolescents in Ivankiv can’t wait to get out. Despite her troubles, Olya has no desire to leave. She plans to raise her son here.<br />
