Original caption: .In Slavutych, Ukraine, members of the Nezdaiomtsya pensioners' group gather to observe Red Army Day, a holiday originally dedicated to veterans of the Russian and Soviet Armed Forces. Today, the holiday is officially called Defender of the Fatherland Day, but colloquially it is simply called Men's Day (???? ??????)...Most members of Nezdaiomtsya are Chernobyl retirees. Both men pictured here are World War II veterans. Slavutych is the new city built after the Chernobyl accident to replace the abandoned city of Pripyat. After the April 26, 1986 accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the population within 30 kilometers was permanently evacuated, including residents of Pripyat and many villages. .-------------------.
